This year the UAL Shanghai Alumni Association decided to celebrate Lantern Festival, the traditional end of the Chinese New Year, with a creative activity to test the artistic skills of a range of alumni from fashion designers and jewelry makers to brand managers and marketers.
Elain Zhu (LCF), founder and owner of Mudchute, a bespoke fashion studio named after the area in London where she lived while studying at UAL, kindly hosted the event at her beautiful showroom in the Former French Concession area of Shanghai.
Following Elain’s presentation about her business, Zoe Yang, founder of Artable.cn, introduced her international platform to connect artists and designers directly to end consumers and invited UAL alumni to collaborate.
Following the presentations, the gathered alumni then gathered in the kitchen area to decorate paper lanterns with pens, stickers and other materials randomly gathered. The lanterns were then fitted with LED lights and hung in the courtyard of the showroom. British refreshments including Earl Gray tea, digestive and shortbread biscuits and ginger beer and cloudy lemonade were all served to simulate creativity.
